Connect the useful pieces

Build internal links that create a sensible reading path

Connect prerequisite explanations, related decisions, and next steps without turning every paragraph into a menu.

Internal links help readers move between related parts of a website and help crawlers discover those pages. Their value comes from the relationship they express. Adding more links indiscriminately is not the same as building a library whose structure helps someone make progress.

Identify the role of the destination

A link may explain a prerequisite, expand an important detail, offer an alternative approach, or provide a next step. Decide which role it serves before adding it. A reader should understand why leaving the current paragraph might help with the task they are trying to complete.

For example, a domain-connection tutorial can link to an explanation of choosing a host without reproducing the entire hosting comparison. The relationship is useful because it addresses a decision some readers need to make first. An unrelated article included only to increase link counts adds less value.

Use descriptive wording

Choose anchor text that identifies the destination naturally. "Compare static hosting and a CMS" communicates more than "click here." Avoid forcing an exact keyword phrase into a sentence if it makes the wording awkward or overstates what the linked page covers.

Make the surrounding context honest too. Do not describe a general introduction as a complete troubleshooting solution. If the destination is an external source rather than another article on your site, make that relationship clear when it matters to the reader.

Recommend what logically comes next

Related-article selections can use shared topics and concepts, but review the resulting suggestions. The next step after understanding ad revenue might be learning about placements or measurement, not simply whichever article happens to be first in a database.

Avoid recommending the current article to itself or showing the same destination several times in one small list. Do not claim that recommendations are personally tailored if they are only based on the current topic. A transparent, relevant relationship is enough to be useful.
